How to make and send a URL that works as advertised?

Subtleties: 

  1. I (the document owner) open the document in my browser
  2. I click Share
  3. click Advanced
  4. set Who has access to : Anyone who has the link can edit (that is: Link sharing is On , Access:Anyone (no sign-in required) Can edit)
  5. add email addresses to the Invite people: field (Notify people is enabled by default)
  6. add a message like: This is the document we talked about…
  7. click Send

Result:

The link sent to the beneficiaries opens the Docs, yet doesn’t permit altering except if they sign in to Google.

What I discovered:

  • The guilty party is the invite=xyZFOO parameter in the URL. If it is erased and the subsequent URL opened, it works (the Docs is shown and can be altered).
  • it appears Google Docs affixes this parameter to the URL in the greeting mail dependent on the beneficiary location (regardless of whether it is a Google account or not – for Google accounts it sends a “working” URL, for other it annexes this welcome parameter), however, it isn’t reliable (or I am coming up short on test beneficiaries)
  • on the off chance that I empower Send a duplicate to myself, at that point the URL sent to me is consistent without the dangerous parameter
