With people spending much of the day in front of their laptops, desktop backgrounds serve the important purpose of creating a productive atmosphere. Having a refreshing image to greet you every time you turn on can really put your laptop in the right direction. Today, we’ll look at the steps you can follow to customize your desktop background on Chrome OS. On a Chromebook
Chrome OS has a built-in wallpaper gallery with a lot of interesting wallpapers. To access this gallery, right-click (by manually pressing the right-click button or a two-finger press on the touchpad) on a blank space on the desktop. A drop-down menu appears.

From the drop-down menu, click Set Background. A wallpaper gallery should appear on the screen.

As you can see from the top panel of this gallery, background images are sorted into different categories. You can click on any of these pictures to set it as wallpaper. Chrome OS downloads high definition image and automatically sets the selected image as wallpaper.
Surprise me
In the lower right corner of the gallery is a Surprise Me checkbox. Surprise Me is a feature of Chrome OS that automatically changes the desktop background periodically by selecting an image from the gallery randomly. Therefore, every time you open your Chromebook, you can be greeted by a beautiful wallpaper.

Set a custom background image
Chrome OS also has the option of selecting the wallpaper you want outside of that wallpaper. You can do this by clicking Custom from the gallery’s top shelf.
Note You can only navigate to Custom if Surprise Me is cleared.

Click the box with the + sign in the middle. A pop-up window appears.

Click Select File in this pop-up window. The Files app opens and you must navigate to the location of the image you want to set as the wallpaper. When the image is selected, you can now select the position for your background image. You can try all three options from the drop-down menu and see the changes in your background in real time.

Warning: One thing to remember is that this wallpaper appears on the login screen, ie before you even enter your password. Therefore, the wallpaper can be seen by someone turning on your Chromebook. You might want to be careful about it.
That’s all. Continue to find yourself a fantastic wallpaper that will allow you to spend all that time in front of your Chromebook.
